Tommy Lee-5-1024x1024Lee was born Thomas Lee Bass on October 3rd, 1962 in Athens, Greece, to father David Lee Thomas Bass, an American U.S. Army sergeant as well as mother Vassiliki "Voula" Papadimitriou (Greek: Basilike Papademetriou), a contestant on the 1957 Miss Greece beauty contest. Athena is his older sister and is a drummer. Lee was only two years old when his father accompanied his family to the United States. Lee received his first drums at age four as well as his first large drum kit at the age of a teenager. To pursue a career as a musician and performer, he quit highschool and joined the L.A. nightclub band Suite 19. When he was a teenager the band played Led Zeppelin, Van Halen, Cheap Trick, Kiss, AC/DC and Sweet. John Bonham, Tommy Aldridge and Alex Van Halen were his primary drumming influencers. Terry Bozzio is also a significant influence.
