Madekwe was born in South London, England into a family of mixed blood. The mother of her child is English and her father Nigerian. She was raised on a council estate in the south of London. In the ages of 14, she attended The Brit School. She went to The Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London which she graduated with an BA in acting. At the academy was when she performed in various stage plays, including the King Henry V as Princess Katherine and Wuthering Heights as Catherine Earnshaw.
Madekwe's acting career began in the series Storm Damage. She's appeared as guest for Teachers Doctors Casualty Drop Dead Gorgeous. Madekwe's first film role was Woody Allen's 2007 Cassandra's Dream opposite Colin Farrell, Ewan McGregor. Her popularity led her to play Elisha in a one-off BBC Three drama West 10 LDN pilot, then appear in six episodes Trexx and Flipside in the role of Ollie. In 2008 she landed Bambi's part on the ITV2 Drama Series Secret Diary of a Call Girl. She appeared in two series, 2 and 3. Madekwe was a part of the 2008 Comedy film How to Lose Friends & Alienate People. Performance credits for Madekwe include Little Sweet Thing and Flight Path.
Madekwe made her debut in the US with The Beautiful Life. The drama series ran at The CW for only two episodes, before it was removed from the air. Ashley Davenport, a character in ABC's Revenge drama, was chosen for her as Ashley Davenport. Following her appearance as a regular on the first two seasons, it was announced in May 2013 that Madekwe would depart the series following a guest appearance in the first episode from the 3rd season. From 2014 until the year 2016, she appeared on Salem as Tituba. Madekwe, her long-time companion, Iddo, married Madekwe in June of 2012. Alongside Secret Diary of a Call Girl they have also worked with each other on Salem and he had an appearance with her on the show on TV.

Ashley Leggat is a Gemini-nominated actor who was raised by a big family. Her parents were Patty and Roy Leggat. Her parents were Roy and Patty along with her older brothers -Rob, Brett, and twins Todd and Bram. The brothers of Ashley were extremely athletic and played baseball and hockey during the winter as well as in the summer. They grew up playing stadiums and played baseball. Ashley could never walk, but she danced. At the age of two, she took up Baby Ballet and fell in with. Ashley was hooked on dance immediately. She won the top soloist awards at all of the most prestigious dance competitions like, International Dance Challenge, Showstoppers, 5-6-7-8 Showtime, Flash Dance, and Dance, Dance, Dance among others.
